Criminal Justice, Associate of Science

Program Description

The Associate of Science degree (Criminal Justice) has been developed with the cooperation and support of Southern Oregon University (SOU). The degree is fully articulated with SOU’s Criminology and Criminal Justice program and allows students to transfer directly as juniors as pre-majors in CCJ.

Program Outcomes

Students who successfully complete an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice will:

  1. Identify the major steps of the criminal justice process and how a case proceeds through the criminal justice system, including landmark U.S. Supreme court decisions
  2. Communicate effectively in the criminal justice system via writing, verbal and non-verbal form
  3. Describe how criminal justice professionals work effectively within a diverse society
  4. Describe the importance of positive criminal justice interactions, with an emphasis on continuing dialogue between all aspects of the criminal justice system and all segments of the community

Career Considerations

The Criminal Justice program prepares students for entry-level jobs and future careers in the following areas: law enforcement, corrections, and parole and probation.

Advising Notes

  • Students must complete a minimum of 90 term credits of lower division collegiate courses with a minimum grade point of 2.0 and a grade of “C” or better in Composition I 121Z and Composition II 122, and the Communication class chosen to meet the Oral Communication requirement. 
  • Please see your academic advisor for an individualized academic plan.
  • VA students, please see academic advisor for individualized academic plan to meet funding requirements.
  • A PC with MS Word 2013 or newer is required for completing all work in this program. Working knowledge of MS Word is required.
  • The electives which are identified each term are the preferred electives for the program; however, any of the approved electives in this program may be taken at the student’s choosing.
  • The following courses are recommended to be taken in the summer to reduce course load during the other terms: PSY101, COMM218Z, or COMM111Z.
